Summary
Always lay out the entire new area of plumbing before you
connect to the main supply. In this way you only have to
disconnect the main supply for the time it takes to fit
a Tee connector from the supply to the new pipes.
1 Turning off the supply
2 Marking the pipe
3 Cutting the pipe
4 Fitting the Tee connector
5 Fitting the connecting pipe
6 Connecting to the new pipe run
Tools
Pipe cutter, hacksaw, heat gun, adjustable pliers
Materials
Tee connector, pipe, solder
Step 1 - Turning off the supply
First you need to isolate the supply by locating the main
stopcock and turning it clockwise to cut off the water supply.
Open the taps to drain out the remaining water.
Step 2 - Marking the pipe
Mark the pipe in the two places you intend to cut.
Remember to complete the pipe run from the new appliance or
fixture before connecting to the supply pipe.
Step 3 - Cutting the pipe
You can use a pipe cutter or hacksaw to cut the pipe.
In both cases ensure the cut pipes are free of burr.
DonÆt worry if a little water seeps out. You may need
to pull the pipe away from the wall in order to cut.
Step 4 - Fitting the Tee connector
You can now fit the connector using the preferred method.
The diagram shows a compression fitting.
Step 5 - Fitting the connecting pipe
Fit a connecting pipe to the third joint of the
Tee Connector using the appropriate method.
Step 6 - Connecting to the new pipe run
You can now connect to the new pipe run. Once connected
you can turn the supply back on. Check for any leaks.
